Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
During the course of KSU’s Instructional Technology Program, I have kept a professional blog on my Weebly portfolio. As each course ended, I created a blog entry to reflect on what I learned and how it benefited me professionally, both in the classroom and as an instructional technology coach. In one specific course, ITEC 7430 – Internet Tools in the Classroom, I blogged throughout each module to discuss, reflect, and determine use of technology within my own classroom. The posts focused on equitable access, diversity, and several digital tools to enhance student learning. The creation of each blog was completed individually and documents my growth and experiences throughout the program.
Standard 6.2, Reflection, establishes expectations to regularly evaluates and reflects on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences. By blogging throughout the Instructional Technology program, I documented my ability to regularly evaluate and reflect on things such as professional practices and dispositions in relation to my position as a Mathematics teacher and as a future instructional technology facilitator. Blogging allowed me to think deeply on course content and my understanding of professional practices and dispositions, as well as how I implemented (or could) the new knowledge in my classroom. Blogging also paved the way for personal self-assessment, which is important for educators to improve their personal pedagogical practices. Through the process of regularly evaluating and reflecting, I was also able to improve my ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences within my instruction.
By creating and maintaining the Weebly Blog over the last two years, I learned the importance of blogging as a reflective tool. I also learned that blogging is a great way to share ideas and record knowledge and learning for future reference. Having never created a blog before, I learned to enhance my blog in the ITEC 7430 course by including hyperlinks, videos, and images. The blog allowed time to think of each class in its entirety rather than as individual assignments. It also provides me with a snapshot of my professional growth as an Instructional Technology leader throughout the program. If I were to change anything about the artifact, it would be to blog more often, as a reflection tool about major assignments as well. This could have been helpful for the writing of 28 reflections at the end of the program.
The creation of my Weebly Blog had the greatest impact on faculty development, specifically my own personal development. As I reflected and blogged about each course, I was able to summarize my learning and analyze my growth as a technology leader. The blog also serves as a resource for many ideas, tools, and strategies. The impact on faculty development can be assessed through evaluation of my growth in implementing technology to enhance student learning.
