3.7 Communication & Collaboration
Candidates utilize digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. (PSC 3.7/ISTE 3g)
Artifacts: Weebly Blog, Class Website, & Twitter Feed
Reflection:
Demonstration of Standard 3.7, Communication and Collaboration, requires consideration of a variety of ongoing artifacts. I created the Weebly Blog and Class Website during this program as I learned more about communication and what should be included in a website for online learning. I joined Twitter in 2017 when I attended the Georgia Educational Technology Conference and have used it for professional networking since then. I have also used other Web 2.0 tools, such as email, FlipGrid, Google Classroom, & Voicethread, and virtual tools like Zoom & Google Meets for communication and collaboration. I feel that my Weebly blog, Class Website, and Twitter feed represent mastery of this standard best.
Standard 3.7, Communication and Collaboration, sets expectations for utilizing digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. The Weebly blog has been kept as a journal containing reflections about courses and personal growth for this instructional technology program, while the Class Website is used for communication and collaboration with students and parents and to provide online/blended learning support for students. My Twitter is used for professional networking and has been an extremely useful tool for communicating with peer educators around the world during the Coronavirus pandemic. Social media has proved to be an excellent tool as many great educators have banded together to create and share resources, offer ideas and support, and share thoughts, all for free and quickly. The combination of these artifacts expresses my ability to use a variety of digital communication and collaboration tools. My Weebly blog, Class Website, and Twitter feed are available for viewing on the internet and offer opportunities for engagement and collaboration with students, parents, peers, and the larger community.
In completing the communication and collaboration artifacts, I learned that it’s important to set communication goals and habits to continuously engage with the world. While I don’t typically post on Twitter every day/week, to keep up to date on current information, I regularly browse through my news feed. You could miss something useful if you stay away too long. I also found dedication necessary in blogging and maintaining a website. Collaboration and communication require time, dedication, and resilience. If I were able to change something about these artifacts, it would be to post more often on my Twitter, even if just sharing others’ posts.
Through the creation of these artifacts, student learning and faculty development were impacted most. Student learning has been enhanced through the availability of learning resources added to the course website and the collaborative opportunities through online discussions. Faculty development has been impacted through local and global communication opportunities provided by the reflection blog and Twitter Feed. Even among colleagues, I have been able to share insights and new knowledge gained using Twitter as a professional learning network. I have also convinced peers to join social media endeavors for professional enhancement. Assessing this impact could be completed through surveys of stakeholders that rate the impact of using digital tools for communication and collaboration.
